Buyer: Meat and Product


Meat and Product Buyers are tasked with purchasing all products for the business’s meat department. The Meat Buyer utilizes excellent communication skills to maintain and enhance relationships with meat vendors – assuring that the meat department’s supply of food products is sufficiently maintained in order to seamlessly provide for consumer demand.

Someone assuming the title of Meat Buyer may also be tasked with the following: assuring product freshness upon purchase, negotiating pricing with food vendors, finding meat products that consumers are particularly interested in, working within company budget constraints, maintaining sanitation and quality standards, and ensuring company profitability based upon the meat department’s inventory. Candidates for the position of Meat Buyer are likely required to hold previous food industry experience and dependent upon the hiring company, may also require some type of higher education degree.
